What is the full form of NTT?
NTT stands for Nursery Teacher Training. It is a teacher training course that prepares you to teach young children in nursery, playgroup, LKG and UKG classes. Related abbreviations include NPTT (Nursery and Primary Teacher Training), PPTT (Pre-Primary Teacher Training), ECCE (Early Childhood Care and Education) and MTT (Montessori Teacher Training).
What this means in practice
The abbreviation appears in job adverts ("NTT teacher required"), school recruitment rules and course names. When an advert says "NTT qualified", the school usually wants proof that you have trained specifically for the early years rather than for older classes.
Abbreviations you will see alongside NTT
- NPTT: Nursery and Primary Teacher Training, which covers nursery plus the first primary classes
- PPTT: Pre-Primary Teacher Training (nursery, LKG, UKG)
- ECCE: Early Childhood Care and Education, usually from birth to 6 or 8 years
- MTT: Montessori Teacher Training
- ETT: Elementary Teacher Training, for primary classes
- D.El.Ed: Diploma in Elementary Education, the NCTE diploma for classes 1 to 8
Is NTT the same everywhere?
No. The name is used by government teacher education institutes, private colleges and online institutes, and the duration and recognition differ. A two-year NTT from an NCTE-recognised institution is a different qualification from a six-month online certificate, even though both are called NTT.
How to describe NTT on a CV or application
Write the full title, the level, the awarding institute and the year, for example: "Diploma in Nursery Teacher Training (NTT), AP Teacher Training Institute, 2026, 200 hours". Recruiters in India, the Gulf and Africa understand NTT, but a full title avoids confusion with similar abbreviations and shows the depth of your training.
If an advert asks for "NTT/NPTT/ECCE", any of these early-years qualifications is usually acceptable. If it says "NTT from a recognised institute", ask what recognition the school needs.
What to do next
- Read the full course title on the certificate, not just the abbreviation.
- Check the level (certificate, diploma or PG diploma) and the hours.
- Check who awards it and whether your target employer accepts it.
What to keep in mind
Abbreviations hide big differences. Always compare courses by level, hours, awarding body and acceptance, not by the letters NTT alone.
