Is an NTT course worth it?
An NTT course is worth it if you want to work with young children in private preschools, playschools, day-care centres or school pre-primary sections, or run your own playschool. It gives practical skills and a credential that many private employers ask for. It is not the right route if you need a government teaching post, which requires NCTE-recognised qualifications.
What this means in practice
Value depends on your goal, the course's depth and its cost. Early-years teaching has steady demand because families keep needing preschool places, and NEP 2020 has raised expectations of trained staff. But pay in private preschools varies widely, so be realistic and treat NTT as a starting point you can build on.
When NTT is a good investment
- You want a preschool or playschool career and enjoy young children
- You already work in a preschool without formal training
- You plan to open a playschool and need to understand curriculum and safety
- You are a parent or carer who wants a structured understanding of early childhood
When to think again
If your goal is a government nursery or primary post, look at NCTE-recognised NTT or D.El.Ed programmes instead. If you want to teach older classes, a B.Ed is the usual route. If cost is the barrier, start with a certificate and upgrade later.
Costs and returns to weigh
Compare the total fee and study time with what the course can lead to. At APTTI the NTT Certificate is ₹10,000 + GST, the Diploma ₹20,000 + GST and the PG Diploma ₹30,000 + GST, studied online without travel or relocation costs.
Returns are not only financial: confidence with children, the ability to plan a structured day, better communication with parents and a recognised step into a career that suits family timings. Talk to two or three working nursery teachers in your city about what training helped them most.
What to do next
- Write down the job or outcome you want in three years.
- Check job adverts in your city for the qualification they ask for.
- Compare the total fee, hours and support across two or three courses.
- Ask what the certificate is accepted for, in writing.
What to keep in mind
No course guarantees a job or salary. Experience, communication skills and references matter as much as the certificate.
Common follow-up questions
Is there scope in NTT?
Yes, in private preschools, playschool chains, school pre-primary sections, day care and home tutoring, in India and abroad.
Is NTT better than B.Ed?
They lead to different jobs. NTT is for the early years; B.Ed is mainly for school classes. See NTT vs B.Ed.
