Can I do an NTT course after 12th?
Yes. After 12th you can do a Diploma in Nursery Teacher Training, which at APTTI takes 200 hours over 10 months online and costs ₹20,000 + GST (USD 325). You can study it alongside a degree. Students from any stream (arts, commerce or science) are eligible.
What this means in practice
12th is the most common entry point for NTT, and the Diploma is the level many private schools look for. It covers more depth than the Certificate, including curriculum design and assessment, with more practical assignments.
Options after 12th for early-years teaching
- Diploma in Nursery Teacher Training (private, online)
- Diploma in Montessori, ECCE or Pre-Primary Teacher Training
- Government or NCTE-recognised NTT or D.El.Ed programmes, if you want government posts
- A degree plus a PG Diploma later
Studying NTT with a degree
Many students do a B.A., B.Com or B.Sc while completing an online NTT Diploma, then take a PG Diploma after graduating. This builds both qualifications and experience.
What the Diploma adds
The Diploma's 200 hours go further than the Certificate, with more time on planning a full curriculum, observing children, managing a class independently and partnering with parents.
It is the level many private schools and preschool chains look for when hiring class teachers. Combined with a degree later, it gives a strong foundation for a long early-years career.
What to do next
- Decide whether you want private or government jobs.
- Apply for the Diploma level.
- Plan a weekly study schedule of about 5 hours.
- Look for weekend volunteering in a preschool.
What to keep in mind
If government recruitment is your goal, check whether the post requires an NCTE-recognised diploma before choosing.
