NTT vs pre-primary teacher training (PPTT): is there a difference?
NTT and PPTT are very similar: both prepare you to teach nursery, LKG and UKG. Pre-primary teacher training often places a little more emphasis on teaching methodology, child psychology, language development and creative arts for the years just before Grade 1. At APTTI both have Certificate, Diploma and PG Diploma levels with the same fees; Pre-Primary also has an Integrated PG Diploma.
What this means in practice
Employers usually treat NTT and PPTT as equivalent for pre-primary teaching roles.
APTTI pre-primary levels
- Certificate: 10th pass, 120 hours, 6 months, ₹10,000 + GST (USD 170)
- Diploma: 12th pass, 200 hours, 10 months, ₹20,000 + GST (USD 325)
- PG Diploma: graduation, 240 hours, 12 months, ₹30,000 + GST (USD 475)
- Integrated PG Diploma: graduation, 480 hours, 18 months, ₹35,000 + GST (USD 549)
How to choose
If you want the longest, most comprehensive option as a graduate, consider the Integrated PG Diploma. Otherwise, pick the title that matches the jobs you are targeting.
What pre-primary training emphasises
Pre-primary courses spend more time on readiness for Grade 1: early reading and writing, number sense, longer concentration and independence. NTT courses spend a little more time on the youngest children and care routines. In practice the overlap is large.
What to do next
- Read both topic lists.
