Train as a nursery teacher from Durban without travelling to a training centre. Study APTTI's NTT course online in your own time, then teach in early childhood development (ECD) centres and other early-years settings.
The NTT course in Durban is studied online: Certificate after 10th (120 hours, 6 months), Diploma after 12th (200 hours, 10 months) or PG Diploma for graduates (240 hours, 12 months). Fees start at USD 170 (₹10,000 + GST). There is no entrance exam, you can start any time, and the certificate is posted to your Durban address.
Learners in Umhlanga, Berea, Westville, Pinetown, Chatsworth, Phoenix, Morningside and Umlazi and across KwaZulu-Natal use the same online course: log in at any time, work through the modules and submit assignments to your tutor. You can practise with children where you already work, volunteer at a local playschool or nursery, or use activities at home.
Study is self-paced, so SAST (UTC+2) working hours make no difference. Assignments are in English; English and other official languages can all be part of your classroom practice.
Trained nursery teachers in Durban work in early childhood development (ECD) centres, preschools, Grade R classes and independent schools. Many also run home-based activity or phonics groups.
South Africa moved responsibility for early childhood development to the Department of Basic Education in 2022, and ECD centres and Grade R classes employ practitioners at several qualification levels.
| Level | Eligibility | Duration | Fee in INR | Fee in USD |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Certificate | 10th pass | 120 hours / 6 months | ₹10,000 + GST | USD 170 |

| PG Diploma | Graduation | 240 hours / 12 months | ₹30,000 + GST | USD 475 |
Prefer another approach? Montessori, ECCE and Pre-Primary courses have the same levels and fees; teachers already in post can take the International Teaching Diploma.
Teachers in South Africa register with the South African Council for Educators (SACE), and ECD practitioner qualifications sit on the national qualifications framework. An APTTI course is international professional development, not a SACE or NQF-registered qualification.
