Early years in India

India's National Education Policy 2020 made the foundational stage (ages 3 to 8) the first block of the 5+3+3+4 school structure, and the National Curriculum Framework for the Foundational Stage (2022) puts play, activity and the home language at the centre of early learning. That has raised what private preschools expect from nursery and pre-primary teachers: planned play, early literacy and numeracy, observation and partnership with parents.

Where nursery teachers work

Trained early-years staff work in private nursery schools, playschools, preschool chains, Montessori houses, day-care centres and the pre-primary (nursery, LKG, UKG) sections of CBSE, ICSE, IB, Cambridge and state-board schools.

Recognition and licensing

Government nursery teacher posts (for example, Assistant Teacher (Nursery) recruitment in Delhi) ask for a nursery teacher education qualification from an NCTE-recognised institution. APTTI is a private, autonomous institute and its courses are not NCTE, UGC or AICTE approved, so they suit private-sector preschools, playschools and schools, and personal professional development, rather than government recruitment.
